Telling our Story - Did you know that the longest serving minister of Bethany Church was Dr. William H. Lord? Dr. Lord served Bethany Church for 30 years, from 1847-1877. Dr Lord was the minister during the building of the the 1868 church building, which included our present chapel. Dr. Lord is also the one who proposed that church be called Bethany, rather than the Montpelier Meeting House Society. The stained glass windows in the chapel were given in memory of Dr. Lord and his family.
A Chancy Idea......from Tom Clougher. Free money or free stuff can be won. It might be easier if we pool our resources. SO, if you go to McDonald's and get Monopoly play pieces, consider donating them to Bethany to win so that we can give away whatever we get. Be it cash or prizes, whatever is won will go to someone else and for God's glory. To turn them in to the church you can just put them into the offering plate, slide them in an envelope under the door of the church office, or just turn them in at the office during office hours.
Brown Bag meets at Westview Meadows on Thursdays at 11:45 AM - 1:30 PM. We are listening to a Bill Moyer’s video on the book of Genesis followed by a discussion. We welcome all Bethany people and friends. Bring a sandwich and join the group. Call Esther Farnsworth for directions. 225-6006.
Bethany is Challenged
In October Theresa Murray-Clausen gave a Mission Moment about the Montpelier Food Pantry. Theresa is the Director of Just Basics. The Montpelier Food Pantry is one of the projects of Just Basics.
Bethany is the only Church that consistently gives food that, as she said, "is they healthy high nutrition food that our clients really do like.". In the preceding 12 months we delivered about 2,000 pounnds of food.
Theresa then challenged Bethany and when asked, the congregation accepted the challenge. For the next 12 months, Theresa will tell us the wieght of the food that we sent that month. The challenge is to give more the next month. In October we gave 128 pounds of food. In November we wil lneed more than 128 pounds of pasta (any food is accepted). BUT! Be careful that are enthusiasm does not create a need for 800 pounds of food in Decemeber!
The next collection of Food for the Montpelier Pantry will be on Thanksgiving Sunday, November 23. Out focus food is Pasta: noodles, ramen, wholegrain, rice, elbows, zitit, 'ghetti, udon, soba, etc. Watch for sales. We have to give more this month.
Potluck and Game Night - Saturday Nov. 22nd, 5:30 - 8:00, in the parlor. Bring a favorite dish to share, a favorite game to play and a friend!
