Jesus talked about our Neighbors.
Neighbors in Need (NIN) is a special mission offering of the UCC that supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States. One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry(CAIM). Information is HERE (http://www.caimucc.org/) .  Two-thirds of the offering is used by the UCC's Justice and Witness Ministries(JWM) to support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects through grants. Neighbors in Need grants are awarded to churches and organizations doing justice work in their communities. These grants fund projects whose work ranges from direct service to community organizing and advocacy to address systemic injustice. Funding is provided through donations to the Neighbors in Need offering.

Our donation will be received on October 5. This year we will focus on  how neighbors need education and literacy.

Next Sunday: On the 28th we will collect and bless food for the homeless at the Good Samaritan Haven and the hungry of Montpelier who use the Pantry.
Food Pantry- for the month of September the food for the Montpelier Food Pantry is Cereal, Dried or instant.
Good Samaritan Haven  Sign up this Sunday to supply food for a special cook out!

Come to Worship this Sunday and have a chance to meet Laura Cadmus. For the coming year whe will be a Student Minister. She will learn by doing, listening, and reflecting. She will learn from Rev.s Mark and Amy, the Teaching Parish Committee, and everyone!


THANK YOU to all who donated items for our 20th Annual Lawn Sale - - we couldn’t do it without you. And of course, THANK YOU to all who were part of the crew – there were 71 of us this year. It takes lots of work and lots of hours, but we did it again - it is amazing. Let us know if you have any suggestions or concerns. Assuming that we schedule it as usual, the tentative 2015 dates will be September 19 and 20. SAVE THE DATES!

BETHANY BOWL, SEPTEMBER 16, 2014 FED: 100 HEAD COOKS: Tom Lever, Phyllis Rowell, John Hnylka DISHWASHERS: Gary Rogers, Erik Norkeveck, Conrad Rowell , HELPERS: Ira Gravatt, Tina Campbell, Anita Rogers, Chris Terry, Anne DeVaughn, Pete Gomez, Jean Hnylka.  The menu was built around many donations. 40 pounds of potatoes from the Food Bank became potato salad. 40 pounds of carrots also the Food Bank became buttered carrots. Tomatoes from Jane Staudt became a huge platter of sliced tomatoes. Apples became apple crisp and apple sauce from Donna Hall and an awesome cake from Carrie Youngblood. Added to this were other great desserts, 2 NECI soups, and beverages. It was a feast. Many thanks to all.

Bethany Finance Meeting
Bethany Church will hold its annual Financial Meeting on Sunday, September 28th.  Financial information packets will be available on Sunday, September 14, and an informational meeting to answer questions ahead of the meeting will be held on Sunday, September 21 following the worship service.  You are encouraged to attend the informational meeting so that you can get your questions answered fully, or, if you have a question that needs more attention, the Bethany Board of Directors will be able to address the issue and have an answer before the Financial meeting. If you are unable to attend the informational meeting and have questions, please talk with one of the ministers or a member of the Board of Directors (Amy Bell, Judi Joy, Sandy Clougher, Joe Murray, Stephanie Ratmeyer, Judy Ribolini, and Patty Turley) prior to the meeting.

Sunday October 5th
2nd Annual CWS Central Vermont Crop Hunger Walk
Last year we raised over $6000 for Crop Hunger Walk – 25% of that came back to central Vermont soup kitchens and food shelves.  This year our goal is $10,000.  Will you help us reach that goal?  Join a team!  Make a donation.  We have walkers from many central Vermont churches – this is a non-denominational effort.  It would be great to have more from Bethany Church.
If you are interested – please talk to me after church on Sunday.  I have donation packets and more information to share.  Start walking at 1:00 from the Barre Congregational Church and help the hungry.

Was the Lawn Sale a Success?

YEAH! A lot of hard work by many people meant that some people got rid of stuff they did not need and some people got stuff they did need. Some people got to meet a real live church person who was not hateful or judgemental. Workers tended to bond and laugh. Bethany has some income to further its mission and ministry. And the latest reports are that no one lost their mind ( a few misplaced ones were returned).
So, YEAH it was a success.
