Announcements- posted  at

Our church is doing good work- The lives and destinies of many people are being helped. Thank you for the generosity of your giving.

Esther Short's daughter- (and Darlene Colby's sister), Carol, passed away on Wednesday, September 12.  Memorial Service plans are pending.  Cards of condolence would be much appreciated and can be sent to Esther at 155 Main Street, Apt. 215, Montpelier, Vermont 05602.

What are those yellow sticky notes in my bulletin? It is an opportunity to answer today's questions for the Vision Facilitation Committee! And the questions are: What does it mean to belong to Bethany Church? and a fill-in-the-blank - Being a member of Bethany Church is: Write your answers on the sticky notes and then post the notes on the posters you will find by the hospitality table! The answers will be compiled as part of the information gathering for the visioning process at Bethany! Your answers are important!
The Lawn Sale is doing great!- Thank you to all who have donated good things to sell. And thank you to all who have been on the crew so far. We can use many hands to set up the sale again for this afternoon-and hospitality will be outside after worship. Clean up will start at 3 pm. More clean up tomorrow at 9 am. Please join us-WE STILL NEED YOU.
WARNING: The Financial Meeting of Bethany Church will be held on Sunday, September 30th 15 minutes after the end of the worship service. The Agenda for the meeting is: Opening Prayer, Approve the minutes of the June 10, 2012 Annual Meeting, Presentation of the Spending Plan for 2013, an Introduction to the Visioning Process, and any other business that may appropriately come before the meeting.
Can you spare just a few hours- to help at the Bethany Bowl on either the second, third or fourth Tuesdays? We are asking for about 3 or 4 hours of your time (9:00 to 1:00) We are desperately in need of folks to perform simple tasks as setting the tables, wiping dishes, and setting out bread and any other tasks associated with the meal.  You would NOT be cooking the main entree.  You can choose the Tuesday that would work best for you.  If you have these few hours to share, see or call Phyllis Rowell at 476-4277. Blessings!

VLIAC Dinner at Bethany Church - September 19 at 6 p.m.  Bethany partners with the Vermont Low Income Advocacy Council for this special celebration of VLIAC's 40 years of representing the interests of low income Vermonters.  There will be entertainment and special guests, including John Nutting, retired Vermont Conference minister who has been involved with VLIAC since its beginning.  Advocacy awards will be given and attendees will hear from some 2012 candidates for office.  Supporting VLIAC is an important Just Peace activity of Bethany Church and the Vermont Conference!

Sunday School-  Bethany offers two Sunday School classes (K-3 and 4-8).  Children begin the service with their families and leave together at a designated time to attend Sunday School.  Pastor Amy Pitton develops our curriculum and this unit is We are Better Together.  The lesson is that even though each person is different and unique, we are all needed for a complete church.

The Nursery-  is now open for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers.
Pianist Matthew Odell- will present a special program featuring American masterworks by Samuel Barber and Elliott Carter along with works by Claude Debussy on Friday, October 5 at 8pm at the Bethany Arts Center in Montpelier.   A workshop on the music of Olivier Messiaen will follow at the same location on Saturday the 6th at noon.    Suggested $20 or pay what you can.
Visioning-  During our September services, you will see questions posted in the Narthex and in hospitality, which will help us to define our vision. These are “Reflective Walls” and give us a creative outlet for some of our visioning. You may also see questions posted in other areas of the church, so that we can receive information from the many users of Bethany. Other activities such as meetings and surveys are planned for later in the Fall.  Please participate!  We need your eyes to make our vision clear.
International Day of Peace -Saturday, Sept 22 at 5:30pm on the Statehouse steps. Come and stand for peace. It's the U.N. International Day of Peace every year at this time. Last year we held a choral concert for peace at Bethany Church. This year we are broadening it by having it for the whole community on the statehouse steps and by having individual musical acts as well as a large chorus. Readings by poet David Budbill. Set design by Nicholas Hecht. Come one come all. Stand (or sit) for peace. Central Vermont musicians will perform and a community chorus, directed by Catherine Orr and Arthur Zorn, will solo and lead group singing. Bring a chair. If you would like to sing with the chorus, come to Christ Episcopal Church at 4 PM. For more information call Esther Farnsworth at 225-6006 or Arthur Zorn.
