Bethany Church Center for the Arts presents a Family Event

“MUSIC TALK”
with Rip Keller

“Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony: A cultural revolution”

Wednesday, August 31, 7:30 PM

Bethany Church, 115 Main Street, Montpelier

Musician-scholar Rip Keller offers novel perspectives on a familiar piece of music. Understood in its historical context, he explains, Beethoven’s Ninth is an impassioned plea for democracy, and a prophetic anticipation of the radical artistic experiments of the twentieth century. Music and video material illustrates the talk. People of all ages are welcome.

An entertaining speaker, as well as pianist and singer, Keller is a Walden resident whose Chilean television series “Journey to the Center of the Music” was nominated for an International Emmy in 2003. After some years working full time in South America, he is back on the Vermont scene, and will appear, among other places, in Montpelier’s First Night celebrations.
