Food for the Montpelier Food Pantry Each month the Outreach Board focuses on collecting one type of food (as per request of the pantry). People may give any type of food, it too will be collected and blessed and sent. For the month of June our focus food is peanut butter.

The Bethany Choir- does not rehearse on Thursdays in June, July and August.
We do meet at 9:15 AM and prepare an anthem for each summer Sunday service.
You are most welcome and encouraged to join us on any Sunday the Spirit moves you to do so.

Question- Which fish go to heaven when they die??? Answer: Angelfish. I’m not sure that my jokes are that funny (I do try)...I do know that it's a happy day when John Hall and his crew come to the Food Pantry with donations. We appreciate the many cans of tuna donated in May. Have a great summer and keep up the good work!!!! Kimberley Lashua, Food Pantry Director

It's Spring- and we are cleaning out our garages and attics. The usual buzz about looking forward to the BETHANY LAWN SALE is starting. At this time of year, some folks are wishing there was SOMEPLACE ELSE to store those special boxes and bags that are full of clean, attractive items, in good working order. It is still our policy to ask donors to wait until the week before the sale to bring their donations. When we get requests for exceptions, the policy is to suggest that donors make private arrangements with other members who have extra space. Consequently, it would be helpful for us to know who has extra space so that this suggestion can be most valuable. DO YOU HAVE ANY SPACE WHERE LAWN SALE DONATIONS COULD BE STORED UNTIL THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 13? Please let us know. (sarah5432@gmail.com or 223-5307) If you choose to accept this mission... at the time you agree to a private arrangement, it is wise to have the donor promise to take the items from your space to the church during the collection week. THANK YOU - Bethany Lawn Sale Committee

2012 Pledges - We have received only about a third of our pledges for 2012. If you have not yet had the opportunity to turn in your pledge card, forms are available on the table outside the church office. Your pledge information is necessary as we plan for 2012 budget! Thanks!
Bethany Cook Books Have Arrived- and are on sale in the parlor after Church. Cost is $12.00 and those who pre-ordered can pick them up. Those who did not order, do not fret, there are plenty of extras.

Nursery Care: We need volunteers to be available for the nursery this summer. A sign-up sheet will be available. Many Sundays, there are no children and you can return to the sanctuary. Please see a CE Board member if you have any questions.
TODAY! The Washington West CROP Hunger Walk has set a goal of 90 Walkers and hopes to raise $5000 to help stop hunger and poverty here in our community and around the world through support for self-help initiatives. Twenty-five percent of the funds raised here on June 12 will go to local food shelves and meals programs in the communities where the walkers live. This year the Washington West communities and some 2,000 cities and towns nationwide are joining together in interfaith community CROP Hunger Walks around the theme "Ending hunger - one step at a time."

Walk-a-thon- Maybe you do need legs to do a lot of walking and maybe you do need lungs to do a lot of walking but Judi Joy’s walking team for the Walk-a-thon for the Homeless, to benefit the Good Samaritan Haven, says “All You Need Is Love!!” That’s the name of our team. Judi will be joined on the walk by her 7-year-old granddaughter, Sophia, so if you have younger, and slower, walkers this is the team for you to join. Older, slower walkers are also welcome to join us. Let’s make this a multi-generational, multi-giggle event! We may not do a zillion laps but we’ll have a lot of fun. The walk will take place on Saturday, July 9th at the Barre Rec Field. We also need sponsors and donations so if you choose not to walk with us you can share your love, in spirit. If you are interested please call Judi at (802) 279-3177.

REMINDER - The end of Bethany Church's fiscal year is coming up at the end of June. Just a gentle reminder that full payment of your 2011 pledge would be greatly appreciated by June 30th. If you are unsure of your pledge balance, please contact Don Welch for the information at donald.welch5@myfairpoint.net or by calling 223-6208. And as always, if you would like to make a special gift, or find that you can contribute more than your 2011 pledged amount, we would be happy to receive your gift! Thank you very much!

June 26 CELEBRATION! You are ALL invited to join the celebration of the 20th anniversary of our sisterhood with San Antonio Grande. First, we want you to add your touch to the Salvadoran-style mural that will be painted onto the cinderblock outside back wall of the church. The painting will be done on Saturday, June 18 and the following weekdays. Then, on Sunday, June 26 we’ll have a fiesta after the worship service, with food, music, a piñata, and enjoyment of the mural. Plan to paint and party! You can also help us with this effort by donating any of the following items or making a monetary contribution. (Contact Theresa Lever, 229-0415.)
1.Water-based exterior or interior paint, especially bright colors (open cans are fine)
2.Empty containers with lids—coffee cans, cups, etc. for mixing colors
3.Rags and paper towels
4.Drop cloths
5.Buckets to wash brushes
6.Brushes in various sizes
7.Masking tape or painter’s tape
8.Stirring sticks
9.Candy and small toys for the piñata

China Summer Exchange Camp with Community Connections: This summer the U-32 & Montpelier communities will host a group of 30 ninth-grade students from China. These students will be housed in pairs with local families, and will participate in educational, cultural and recreational programming along with a select group of our local students. From Monday through Friday of each week, this mix of students will meet for spoken English language sessions in the morning, and will travel around the area in the afternoons, sampling the best of Vermont. We are in need of Host Families – We are seeking community members willing to house two of these students from June 27th to July 9th. Visiting students will spend evenings, weekends and mealtimes with host families. Ability to transport these students to and from Montpelier on weekdays is required. There is a small stipend to cover expenses. This is a wonderful opportunity to expand your family while viewing Vermont and the world through the eyes of these Chinese youth. We will provide training and support.
For more information, please contact Bill Merrylees or Ginny Burley at Community Connections, 223-3456 or bmerrylees@u32.org -- www.communityconnections.us.

Outreach For Flood Victims- Local flood victims need cleaning materials, clothing, non-perishable foods and personal items. Money may be sent by mail to PO Box 375, Barre VT. 05641. Bring items to The Salvation Army HQ 10-5, Mon. Through Sat.
