San Antonio Grande, Lawn Sale, Mission Work

Celebrate 20 Years of Sisterhood with San Antonio Grande!

Paint and Party!
At Bethany’s Annual Meeting in June 1991, the congregation voted to enter into a relationship with the Salvadoran community of San Antonio Grande. The Sister Parish Program—Programa Iglesias Hermanas—was created during El Salvador’s civil war by the United Church of Christ’s mission partner, the Salvadoran Lutheran Synod. Nancy Dale, a UCC Global Ministries missionary invited our church to participate and we said yes!

On Sunday, June 26, 2011, Bethany will celebrate the 20th anniversary of our sisterhood. The celebration will actually begin two days earlier, when Kate Papineau and friends arrive from New York City to paint a Salvadoran-style mural on the cinder-block back wall of the church. We want you to join in the painting, adding your mark—large or small, as an individual or a family—to the colorful mural.

Painting will take place on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday after church we’ll dedicate the mural and have a fiesta in the parking lot with food, music and piñata.

How can you be involved?

* Donate colorful paint you have left over from house projects
* Donate inexpensive brushes
* Come on Friday or Saturday to paint – this will be lots of fun!
* Help set up, serve or clean up
* Contribute food (menu is tostadas with all the fillings, fresh fruit drink, cake and ice cream)
* Most importantly, join the party!

All of this is WEATHER PERMITTING! The painting and party will be rescheduled if rain interferes with the painting. Details will be announced in church on the Sundays leading up to the event. Questions or suggestions?

LAWN SALE
SAVE THE DATE - Mark your calendars for the 17th Annual Bethany Lawn and Bake Sale September 17 & 18. We will need many helpers starting September 12. Sign-ups will start soon - don't miss out on your favorite task.

Hello to all,
It's Spring, and we are cleaning out our garages and attics. The usual buzz about looking forward to the BETHANY LAWN SALE is starting. At this time of year, some folks are wishing there was SOMEPLACE ELSE to store those special boxes and bags that are full of clean, attractive items, in good working order. It is still our policy to ask donors to wait until the week before the sale to bring their donations. When we get requests for exceptions, the policy is to suggest that donors make private arrangements with other members who have extra space. Consequently, it would be helpful for us to know who has extra space so that this suggestion can be most valuable. DO YOU HAVE ANY SPACE WHERE LAWN SALE DONATIONS COULD BE STORED UNTIL THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 13? Please let us know. (sarah5432@gmail.com or 223-5307)

If you choose to accept this mission... at the time you agree to a private arrangement, it is wise to have the donor promise to take the items from your space to the church during the collection week.

Help Wanted - -
Bethany Lawn Sale Crew Leader for Bethany Boutique - - This position requires oversight of the Fellowship Hall portion of the sale: clothing, shoes, bags, bed&bath, crafts. Sue Maywood has done an excellent job with this for more than seven years - we will miss her in so many ways. The time required includes 15-20 hours during the week preceding the sale and full time during the sale and clean-up.

Please contact Sarah Williams if you are interested in this invigorating challenge.

THANK YOU -
Bethany Lawn Sale Committee

WILL YOU HELP FILL THIS NEED?

We have received a request from Cindy Gardner Morris to help provide transportation for her mother, Iris Gardner. Iris would like to attend Sunday worship if someone can provide the transportation. Also her husband, Ken, is now at Woodridge. She likes to visit him twice a day if possible and could use help with transportation there. Cindy is not always available to help with this need. CAN YOU? Cindy's number is 802-656-4244. Iris Gardner's number is 485-8880.
