Third Sundays at Bethany!

Peace Service and Bethany Cup
on
March 20

Peace Service
8:30 – 9:00 a.m. in the Chapel

We will remember Oscar Romero on the 31st anniversary of his Christian martyrdom.
“If they kill me, I will rise again in the Salvadoran people . . .”

Arch Bishop Romero
We have had wonderful Peace Services this year, led by various participants.

Sue Maywood helped attendees explore the theme of civility and harmony within the faith community. In December Theresa Lever focused us on the need for peace in present-day Bethlehem. Esther Farnsworth has led two services: one based on the “ministry” and music of Pete Seeger and one in recognition of Black History Month, during which we celebrated the courage and accomplishments of individual African Americans. In another service, Joanne Hardy gave us tools to achieve the inner peace that is a first step toward realizing God’s peace in the world.

Sometimes we sing, pray or meditate, and we always share our joys and concerns as they relate to peace in our lives and in the world. We often feel overwhelmed by the strife and violence that seem to be everywhere. In one service Judi Joy reminded us of Mother Teresa’s words: We can do no great things, only small things with great love. Bethany’s monthly Peace Service gives attendees the support they need to continue doing small things in the service of peace. The services are open to everyone!
